Effective Date: June 28, 2019. (“Parity”) (“we”, “us” or “our”) is committed to protecting the security and privacy of your personal information. This Privacy Policy is intended to explain how Parity processes personal information and our other data protection practices when you visit our website or use our services, and when an organization chooses to participate in the ParityINDEX.

This Policy applies to our website and any personal information collected or delivered by Parity through the website or any other electronic means (the “Sites”), including the ParityINDEX® dashboard and any services provided by Parity.  This Policy describes the kinds of personal information from or about you that we may gather via the Sites, how we use, share and protect such information, and how you can manage your preferences concerning our uses and sharing of such information.

Throughout this policy, “us,” “our,” and “we” refer to Parity. “You” and “your” refers to any person using the Sites in an individual capacity or on behalf of any organization.

Personal Information We May Collect

Parity collects personal information when you visit the Sites, complete the ParityPledge, or sign up for the ParityINDEX or JOBoard, make a donation, or request that we contact you.  Personal information collected may include your name, employer’s name, job title, email address and other contact information you choose to provide, and your gender identity.  We may also collect information about your race and ethnicity if you choose to share that information.  If you use the JOBoard, Parity has no involvement in the job search or application process and does not collect any personal information in connection therewith.

When you donate to Parity using a credit card, our third-party service provider will collect and process your credit card information on our behalf.  Parity does not directly collect or store your credit card or payment information.

Personal Information Collected in Connection with ParityINDEX

Organizations that ask us to provide them with statistical information about the composition of their workforce and board of directors (through participation in the ParityINDEX) may provide Parity with access to personal information about its current or former employees and board members.  Before providing any such information, organizations must warrant that they have provided such access in accordance with applicable law, including data privacy and labor laws.

When we process information for organizations that elect to participate in the ParityINDEX, we may collect personal information of the organization’s employees, which may include an employee’s job title and department; the employee’s gender, race, ethnicity, age or highest level of education attained; employee ID number[1] and supervisor’s employee ID1 or job title; the zip code and country in which the employee works; dates of hiring, termination or leaves of absence (and reasons for leave); the employee’s rate of pay, effective date(s) of pay, changes in rate of pay and reasons therefor.  We do not collect employee names (except if an individual provides us with their name in a registration form on the Sites) or social security numbers.

How We Use Personal Information

We collect and use your personal information and the personal information of employees to operate the Sites, provide our services and statistical information to organizations, and generate statistical information regarding gender parity that is used in our research.  This includes processing donations, registering individuals and organizations as ParityPledge participants and/or sponsors, and creating ParityINDEX scores and models reflecting gender parity in a specific organization or industry sector. It also includes providing recipients on our email list with periodic newsletters and information about new developments related to Parity and gender parity issues.  We may periodically contact you with offers, surveys, and information about our services, your registration, legal notices, or other important information.

We do not sell or otherwise market your personal information to third parties, nor do we disclose it to third parties other than our service providers unless we are required to do so by law.  We do not retain your personal information for any purpose other than for performing our services, which includes performing statistical research regarding gender parity in organizations.

We and our service providers use analytics tools that help us understand how individuals engage with the Sites, including the time and duration of use and information interactions with our online content. This data is used to help us improve the functionality of the Sites and delivery of our services.  It does not identify individuals personally.

Sharing Personal Information

We may use selected third parties to provide us with services, including companies that provide us with IT technical support, assistance in respect of the Sites and our services,  All service providers are permitted to use data only for the purpose of performing services on our behalf in compliance with our privacy practices and policies.

Similarly, we may share your personal information as required or permitted by law to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process or government request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is legally required or otherwise necessary to protect our rights and property or the rights, property or safety of others, including to advisers, law enforcement agencies, judicial and regulatory authorities. We may also transfer your personal information to a third party in the event of a merger, reorganization of our entity or other restructuring.

E-Mail Communications and Marketing

We will send you e-mail communications with information that may be useful to you, including information about Parity, Parity initiatives, as well as marketing, networking or educational communications. You may unsubscribe at any time by emailing us at If applicable law requires that we receive your consent before we send you certain types of marketing communications, we will only send you those types of communications after receiving your consent.  However, if you have committed to the ParityPledge or participate in the ParityINDEX, or use the JOBoard, to ensure that you receive important information, you agree that we may send you non-marketing related information when necessary.

Your Choices Regarding the Personal Information We Collect

We will honor your choices concerning our collection, use, or sharing of personal information about you or your employees. You may contact us to request that we do any of the following:

  • Update, correct, or delete personal information we have collected about you;
  • Change the categories of information you share with us about your employees or revoke permission given to us to access employee information;
  • Withdraw your consent to receive some or all email communications from us; and
  • Change your preferences regarding our sharing of your name or company logo on our website or on social media.

How We Respond to Do Not Track Signals

We do not engage in the collection of personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites or online services.  We do not process or comply with automated browser signals regarding tracking mechanisms, which may include “do not track” instructions.

Revisions to Our Privacy Policy

We evaluate our privacy policies and procedures to implement improvements and refinements from time to time. If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy we will notify you by means of a prominent notice on the website prior to the change becoming effective. Information Security

We use various methods to ensure the protection of your personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss or alteration and against unauthorized disclosure or access. While these methods are considered to be effective, we do not guarantee the protection of your personal information as no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely confidential or 100% secure. Children’s Information

The Sites are not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or store any personal information about children under 16 years of age.  If you are under 16 years of age, do not provide personal information to us and do not use the Sites.

International Transfers

We are based in the United States. We do not solicit information about or from individuals outside the United States, but we do not prohibit such individuals from providing information to us or donating to Parity.  We do not allow organizations outside of the United States to participate in the ParityINDEX, and we do not collect information about an organization’s employees or board members located outside of the United States for use in the ParityINDEX.

If you use our Sites while outside of the United States, the information you submit to us and that we automatically collect as a result of your use of the Sites will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where the privacy and data protection rules may differ from those in your country.  By using our Sites, you consent to the international transfer to, and storage of, your personal information in the United States.

Your California Privacy Rights

California Civil Code section 1798.83, known as the “Shine the Light” law, permits residents of California to annually request and obtain information free of charge about what personal information is disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. We do not disclose your personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes.
